13 Oct 2026

This winter semester, international researchers will speak about resilience, land-use change, and what a sustainable future could look like.

Our Earth Futures Colloquium offers insights into current research topics in geography every other Wednesday at lunchtime. The colloquium gives students, staff, and anyone interested the opportunity to discuss the future of our planet together.

  • 4 November 2026: What climate futures? Young people's political imaginaries and the politics of possibility (Anabela Carvalho, University of Minho, Portugal)
  • 11 November 2026: Understanding recent European drought trends and simulation of plausible worst-case heat summers (Sebastian Sippel, Leipzig University, Germany)
  • 2 December 2026: The geography of resilience: human dynamics and GeoAI in a changing environment (Xinyue Ye, University of Alabama, United States)
  • 27 January 2027: The Emscher Conversion and its impulses for sustainable urban and regional development (Stephan Treuke, Emschergenossenschaft and Lippeverband, Germany)
  • 3 February 2027: What past land-use change teaches us about future forest-based climate solutions (Amali Amali, LMU Munich, Germany)

The talks take place from 12:00 to 1:00 pm in Room C106 of the Department of Geography (Luisenstraße 37). Guests are welcome to bring their lunch.

We're looking forward to seeing you there!
